Bring the magic of the ocean into your home with art from Gemma Lessinger.

Cornwall based artist Gemma is mesmerized by the sea and her textural artworks are an ode to the wild, powerful and healing properties of time spent by the ocean.

With her use of sea salt and sand her paintings are infused with the elements, which she collects and mixes into her pigments. She instinctively portrays the feeling of a beach, tidal pool, or hidden cove, using texture to capture the momentum of breaking waves.

Gemma builds texture in the white water of her pieces using offcuts of fiberglass from surfboard manufacturing, enabling the shaper Rochfort Customs to be one step closer to being zero waste. These offcuts would end up in landfill if not re-purposed into Gemma’s paintings.

This sustainable focus is an ethos Gemma is developing further, re-purposing old surfboards and skateboard decks into ‘canvases’ to create new original works and limited edition prints with the craftsmanship from The Logical Choice Group.

With every sale made through Gemma’s business she donates towards the environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage to help their important work in raising awareness of how important it is to protect the vital resource that is our oceans.

Want something a bit different to adorn your walls?

Gemma’s surfboard art pieces are not only a talking point, they also help support children in need through charity Surfers Not Street Children.

These old surfboards are re-purposed in a collaborative project with fine art printer The Logical Choice Group and surfboard shaper Rochfort Customs.

Three Cornish based businesses are coming together to help reduce waste and protect our oceans.

Once destined for landfill, this board has had all damage repaired by Rochfort Customs, who works very closely with the charity Surfers Not Street Children. Once repaired The Logical Choice Group print one of Gemma’s unique surf art pieces onto fibreglass, which is then re-glassed onto the surfboard ‘canvas’ by Rochfort Customs.

A donation is made to the charity Surfers Not Street Children from the final sale of the board, along with Gemma’s commitment to donate toward charity Surfers Against Sewage from every one of her sales. This helps the charity to fund their initiative to empower street children or children at risk by offering them mentorship and teaching them to surf.
